Pregnant with a Purpose, Part 1

A Change in the Way She Sees

Mary standing there in awe at what she had just heard.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.” Luke 1v30-33

About a month ago, I found out my awesome friends, Josh and Brandie are pregnant. They’ve been trying to get pregnant for 16 years and now it has become reality.

An exciting and scary reality.

I was hanging out with them one day and Brandie tells me now that she’s pregnant she can’t do the things she usually loves to do. They were invited to go horse back riding, to go skiing and among other things, but now she can’t. For awhile it’s just her and Josh. She didn’t have to worry about anyone else. But with a baby on the way, everything is changed.

The way she would carry herself these following months is reflected upon the baby that’s inside her. She will not only be aware of her well being but also the well being of another life. She can’t do all the things she used to do.

Now, imagine putting yourself in Mary’s shoes. An angel just appeared and says,

“You’re going to be pregnant and by the way He is going to be  really important. Like Savior of the world important.”

At first hearing this, would you leap in excitement and say, “count me in!”? or would you be scared and terrified? Would it be a privilege or a burden?

The question for you is, how would you carry this task if it was given to you?

A Mother of a King

Nevertheless the very moment Mary receives this message, this promise, this favor, this task, a shift in the way she sees herself would have to change. She can’t look at herself the same way.

If there was ever thought of insignificance, unworthiness, hopelessness, and discouragement, all of it would have to disappear.

What even more amazing about this story is that Mary would have been around 15-16 years of age when she got this promise. If this was the thought most young teenagers deal with today, could it be the same for her at that time?

Imagine having the Savior of the World growing in your stomach. The Son of the Most High living and breathing inside of you.

Every step, every decision, every moment would be about this Child.
Every action is about the protection, the nurturing, the cherishing that which is inside of her. Every word that comes from her mouth and every bit of act that she does would be in the stewarding of this Baby.

Mary was to be a Mother of a King.

If you have a King-to-be-born Baby living inside you, how would you protect, nurture, cherish that which is inside of you? How would you walk and talk and act? How would you see yourself? How would you steward this promise, this favor, this gift?

The way you steward a promise that was given to you will reveal the value you have for it.

Stay tune for part 2 on this topic in the next few days.
